TEMPERATURE SUSCEPTIBILITY MEASUREMENT OF THE VISCOSITY OF HYDROCARBON BINDERS ABOVE 60 DEGREES C

DETERMINATION DE LA SUSCEPTIBILITE THERMIQUE DE LA VISCOSITE DES LIANTS HYDROCARBONES AU-DELA DE 60OC.

Viscosity and temperature-viscosity investigations have been carried out with the falling ball viscometer in the high temperature range (60 to 150 degrees c) on various types of hydrocarbon binders. In their respective temperature range in which they flow as Newtonian liquids, the physico-chemical interpretation of the experimental results is to consider in some measure, for the viscosity-temperature relationship, an analogy between the Newtonian flow of hydrocarbon and that of polymers. Practically, the measurement of the Newtonian Viscosity of bituminous binders at two temperatures (100 to 135 degrees c, for instance) by means of the falling ball viscometer test and the utilization of the equation allow an easy selection of the pumping, mixing, laying and surface dressing temperatures.
