NONLINEAR ANALYSIS OF ANNULAR AND CIRCULAR FOUNDATIONS BY FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
Foundations of self-supporting vertical cantilevers and those of top heavy structures are usually circular in plan and are provided with circular and annular foundations to avoid differential settlements. The stress deformation characteristics of these foundations are studied using the finite element method. The non-linear stress dependent and inelastic behaviour of soil is assumed in the analysis. It has been observed that the geometrical parameter (b) plays an important part in the behaviour characteristics of these foundations and optimum value of b has been found for a given value of settlement. The effects of geometry and rigidity of foundation, rigid layer and smooth and rough interface conditions are also examined. (TRRL)
