SMALL-SCALE PRODUCTION OF CEMENTITIOUS MATERIALS

This booklet considers cement production from the point of view of achieving local self reliance in developing countries. Two approaches proposed are: firstly, the manufacture of portland cement or material of comparable quality, in much smaller kilns; and secondly, the upgrading of village scale technology based on lime and pozzolans. Other materials (such as hydraulic lime and gypsum) from which cements could be made, are also considered. Reference is made to small scale production in India and China. (TRRL)
