RECOMMENDED PRACTICE FOR ROADWAY SIGN LIGHTING
The recommendations presented provide guidelines only for the lighting of roadway signs. They do not provide standards for the message, letters, symbols, color, size, or location since these are covered by the design requirements of the appropriate highway agency. The need for sign lighting is explained, classification of lighted signs is given elements of roadway sign lighting, external lighted signs, internal lighted signs, luminous source message signs are described. Problems of maintenance of lighted sings are outlined.
