A PROBABILISTIC MODEL FOR THE DESIGN OF TRANSPORT SYSTEMS IN RURAL AREAS
UN MODELLO PROBABILISTICO PER LA PROGETTAZIONE DEI SISTEMI DI TRASPORTO NELLE AREE RURALI
In this article a model is developed for a demand responsive transport system in a rural area. The proposed model, intended for use in the planning stage of the system, is based on the analytical relationships between the vehicles used and the level of service rendered with reference to a demand which is casual in space and time. It comprises two sub models: the first represents a waiting system of m independent channels. Each channel is of the form m/m/1 and serves a variable number of users up to an upper limit equal to r. The second submodel establishes the basic relationship of the service (return journey time, average frequency) with reference to an operating program of variable frequency and trip length.
