SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF DRIVERS AND RIDERS INVOLVED IN ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN NIGERIA
A study of some of the characteristics of drivers and riders involved in road traffic accidents in Nigeria showed that the adolescent and young adult males were usually involved. Those aged between 17 and 25 years accounted for 38% of all cases. Contributory factors included consumption of alcohol and kola nut and taking drugs. The role of doctors and the police in bringing about a behavioural change for safe driving by education andd law enforcement is discussed. (Author/TRRL)
