ALTERNATIVE CEMENTS BASED ON AGRICULTURAL RESIDUES
This paper reviews recent research and development on the use of ash from agricultural residues as pozzolans. Three methods of production are discussed and the properties of the ash and lime- ash cements outlined. It is shown through scaling up programmes, planned in India, Pakistan and elsewhere, that cements of this type could substantially, and economically, overcome shortages of cement in rural communities.
