AN ANALYSIS OF THE BERWICK BAY BRIDGE PASSAGE
A towboat simulator analysis of the Atchafalaya River at Berwick, La., has been carried out. Autopilot and manned passages were made on the simulator with different tow characteristics, going both upriver and downriver, and with and without bow thruster assistance. Five different power levels were represented by different engine RPM values, and this combined with the two different tow lengths results in ten HP/L ratios for analysis. In addition, a casualty analysis was made of an April 1, 1978 collision between a tow and the bridges over the river.
