THE LIME COLUMN METHOD. FOLLOW-UP OBSERVATIONS IN THE TOWN BLOCK "MYREN", HUDDINGE

This report describes a new method, the lime column method, and new mechanical equipment to improve the strength properties of clays at great depths. Vertical columns are made in the ground with unslaked lime using a rotary tool. This method can be used to reduce total and differential settlements, for instance in conjunction with the construction of road embankments or the foundations for light structures. Lime columns may also be used as drains, as lateral support and bottom reinforcement in trenches and other open excavations, and to prevent sliding of slopes.
