RURAL HIGHWAY PLANNING SYSTEM

The author describes a basic "Rural Highway Planning System" developed by the Federal Highway Administration over the past four years, which uses the concept of collecting the minimum basic information needed to plan and operate an efficient highway transportation program. The program makes maximum use of the computer. A series of manuals of instructions and 40 computer programs have been developed, and these will be furnished by the Federal Highway Administration to any country wishing to install the system for its own planning program. FHWA will also provide the "Computer Program Installation Guide," and samples of the key programs. This documentation and support data should make it easy for any country to properly install the program upon its computers. FHWA provides all information free of charge, and need only be reimbursed for the cost of the computer tapes. Further information may be obtained from FHWA, Washington, D.C., U.S.A.
