Detecting Bad Wheels, On-The-Fly

This article discusses the work of the Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) to evaluate the suitability of an Automated Cracked Wheel Detector System (ACWDS) for railroad wheel flaw detection. The implementation of an effective automated method for real-time identification of defective wheels holds implications for increased rail safety, efficiency and reliability. The authors discuss the outcomes of testing of the ACWDS, which was developed by Nanjing Tycho Information Technology Company, Ltd.
