SOME FUNDAMENTAL ISSUES ABOUT MODELLING IN REGIONAL AND URBAN PLANNING
The background of regional and urban planning is discussed by considering the relationship between the aims and kinds of planning and the stage of social development in areas concerned. The logical and philosophical background of the scientific tradition is considered in order to point out some basic errors associated with an unwise adoption of elements of the scientific tradition in regional planning practice. Some common practices in urban and regional modelling are discussed. A model evaluation is presented and some criteria are mentioned which could be used as the basis for such evaluation. A Fourier analysis is presented in the appendix. /TRRL/
