Improving Organizational Performance Through the Application of Integrated Management Systems in Maintenance Activities in the Shipyards

Shipyards must act for ships maintenance cost reduction through new strategies based on performance indicators analysis, including: a) achieved firm bookings as a percentage of their submitted bids number; b) a reduction in the percentage of repair costs; c) improvement in ships docking period by having fewer days for ships staying in docking; d) number of delay days at delivery of the ships; and e) percentage of the repetition of technical inspections for final scope of works settlement. So, through corrective actions taken, the shipyards basic objectives may not be alliterated: their dock capacities and available manpower for constant time loading, collaboration with traditional customers, and opening new collaboration opportunities for extending customer portfolios. This work paper's purpose is from the authors' original contributions and presentation of research results concerning the application of integrated management systems into shipyards, focusing on systems performance indicators and organizational strategies applied to analyzing ships maintenance in shipyards.
