Pedestrian Traffic Fatalities by State: 2015 Preliminary Data
In the first six months of 2015 there were 2,368 pedestrian fatalities as compared to 2,232 deaths during the same period in 2014. There were 4,884 total pedestrian fatalities in 2014. This study, based on preliminary data supplied by all 50 states and the District of Columbia, predicts a 10% increase in pedestrian fatalities for 2015 as compared with 2014. This document looks at trends in pedestrian deaths from 2005 through 2014 and studies preliminary counts for the first six months of 2015. Tables include specific State data. Fatality crash patterns are examined, reasons for the decrease in fatalities are explored and State pedestrian safety programs are described.
