RECORDING OF REGISTRATION NUMBERS AS A METHOD OF TRAFFIC
REGISTRATIE VAN KENTEKENS ALS METHODIEK VOOR VERKEERSONDERZOEK
In the Netherlands the method of recording registration numbers is only incidentally applied for the purpose of traffic surveys. In 1971 Hoogovens Ijmuiden held a limited regional traffic survey, in co-operation with Rijkswaterstaat and Provinciale Waterstaat (State and Provinicial Department of Public Works). The specific aim of this survey gave rise to the application of this method. At 17 points the registration numbers of all motor vehicles passing by in the peak periods were recorded on punched sheets, either directly or through sound tapes. With the aid of a specially developed computer program all required data were calculated. This method has proved very useful and has made it possible to gain reliable results with minimal costs. /TRRL/
