Effect Analysis of Parking Price and Egress Time on Parking Choice and Car Usage at Airport

Car parking at airport is becoming a critical issue to airport managers with the rapid growth of air passenger traffic and car usage in China. Developing remote parking is a desirable solution to resolve parking congestion at airport. Investigating air travelers’ parking choice and responses to the introduction of remote parking lot and pricing adjustment is essential for airport authorities when setting parking managements including pricing regimes, location, and shuttle service. This paper developed a multinomial logit model (MNL) based on stated preference data collected from SP survey in Changsha Huanghua International Airport (CSX). The results indicate that both parking price and egress time have significant effects on parking choice and car usage. The effects of socio-economic characteristics and trip characteristics such as residential area and trip purpose were also analyzed, it is found that business passengers do not prefer driving alone than non-business passengers; and parking choice can also be influenced by other factors such as the size of access group, the number of luggage, previous access mode and departure time. Finally, parking demand was predicted in various scenarios to explore combined effect of parking price regimes and egress time, which provide meaningful reference for parking policy makers and managers.
