Field Study for Velocity Control Effect by Utilizing Visible Appearing Measures against Traffic Accidents

On expressways in Japan, In order to call for attention and keep safe traffic, a lot of traffic accident measures such as large sign boards have been installed; however, traffic accidents still occur frequently especially at high-accident locations. Therefore, as the new countermeasures, visually appealing equipment such as highly visible lane marking and vision-guided system with light emitting delineator that are expected to restrain excess traffic velocity, a major cause of traffic accidents, are installed to examine; also, in order to analyze the effects of velocity control by each equipment, traffic velocity data before and after the installment are collected and compared. As the results, it is confirmed that the ratio of vehicles with excess velocity are decreased that means there are some certain effects on velocity restraint with the both measures.
