Causes of road driving hazardous situations
The number of accidents has considerably decreased these last years in most countries. Consequently, it can be interesting to work on driving hazardous situations instead of accidents in order to prevent them. But it appears important to identify if these events are due to the infrastructure, the driver or the vehicle (or a combination of these components). Based on the implementation of 50 Event Data Recorder in different public fleets of company vehicles, about 340 driving hazardous situations were collected during one year on the French territory. This paper provides a descriptive analysis of the database of this kind of incident in order to investigate on their different causes. A qualitative and quantitative description of the collected data is given in function of the level of the vehicle accelerations reached during the hazardous situations, the location of the incident (road configuration), the speed, etc.
