A Look Back at Moving Forward
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) launched the Every Day Counts (EDC) initiative in November 2009, which encourages the use of technological innovations and enhanced business processes to solve the challenges of highway projects and to facilitate doing more with less. Through EDC, FHWA works with transportation agencies and other groups to identify a new collection of innovations every two years. The innovations share goals of shortening project delivery, enhancing the safety and durability of bridges and roads, reducing traffic congestion, and protecting the environment. There has been a high level of participation in EDC. Since its inception, every state transportation agency in the country has used at least one of the selected innovations, with more and more being adopted all the time.
