NEW D8 MULTI-SYSTEM LOCOMOTIVES IN THE LIGHT OF THE ZURICH DISCUSSIONS OF THYRISTOR LOCOMOTIVES
In a special chapter this report underlines the importance of thyristor technology in the construction of multi-system locomotives which can run on alternating current and various voltages and frequencies as well as on direct current and various voltages. The advantages of controlling the traction motors through a single thyristor converter from an a.c. or d.c. power supply, described in this report, were the reason why this method was used in some of the DB four-system locomotives.
