Verification test of fault locator on a 6.6 kV power distribution line

The authors have developed a fault location system to find ground-fault difficulties that occur on a 6.6 kV power distribution line. The point of the ground fault was identified and detected by measuring propagation of surge voltage at each end of the line. Global positioning systems and noncontact voltage sensors were the instruments of measurement. Verification tests were also conducted. This procedure allowed the authors to detect a fault location with an error rate from 278 m to 363 m (3%) from a distance of 12.258 km.
