Optimising the returns from modern asphalt surfacings: Sub-Task3: Rolling resistance of asphalt surfacings
This paper investigates rolling resistance of asphalt surface courses, and the pavement variables that determine the impacts of rolling resistance on pavements. Surface texture is examined at an accelerated pavement test facility, and the findings of that examination are provided in this report. Results indicate that rolling resistance increases with the depth of pavement texture; and that repeated passes of a heavy vehicle load can measure small differences in the coefficient of rolling resistance between the surfacings.
