AN ANALYSIS OF FIELD LOAD BEARING TESTS USING PLATES

THE RESULTS OF FIELD PLATE LOAD BEARING TEST ARE ANALYZED, INCLUDING: (1) REACTIONS OF THE MATERIALS UNDER THE TESTING PLATE, (2) REACTIONS OF THE SURFACE ADJACENT TO THE TESTING PLATE, AND (3) THE STRENGTH IMPARTING POWER OF SUPERIMPOSED LAYERS AND VARIATION OF LOAD BEARING VALUE WITH SIZE OF TESTING PLATE. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT DESIGNING BY FORMULA IS DIFFICULT SINCE ANY FORMULA MUST INDICATE THE FACTORS OF VARIATIONS IN RATE OF LOAD BEARING VALUE INCREASE PER INCH OF SUPER-IMPOSED LAYERS AND VARIATIONS IN RELATION OF LOAD BEARING VALUE TO SIZE OF PLATE. /AUTHOR/
