Electric vehicle development and validation of the TRL simulator
A simulator was modified to reproduce the performance characteristics of a Nissan Leaf electric vehicle (EV). It was referred to as DigiCar EV. This report describes the technical specification, development, and validation of DigiCar to enable it to be operated as an EV. The validation procedure evaluated acceleration/deceleration profiles, speed choice, distance perception, and lane-change maneuvers. It was determined that DigiCar EV faithfully represented an EV, and that deceleration and acceleration characteristics could be used in the development of an EV simulator.
