Road engineering in soft rock materials (summary volume)

In 1977 aspects and issues related to roading in soft rocks were discussed at a workshop in Palmerston North. The workshop concluded that there was a need for research to address issues, particularly those related to the characterisation and classification of soft rocks, and their performance in cut slopes, embankment fills and pavements. Since the 1977 workshop 10 research projects have been initiated by the Structures and Pavements Committees of RRU. Projects have focused on the classification, cut slope and embankment fill issues. This RRU Bulletin presents four papers which bring together the results of this research. A fifth paper summarises geotechnical test methods commonly used.
