Road tunnel management and operation

Information relating to operation of tunnels was assembled after a visit to tunnels in Hong Kong and Europe, and attendance at the PIARC/ OECD Seminar on Tunnel Management in Lugano, November 1990. The relevance to existing short tunnels in Sydney, and the soon to be completed Sydney Harbour Tunnel, is documented. A number of issues regarding procedures, which could be reviewed, have been highlighted (a).
