Settlement and stability control of road embankment on soft ground by personal computer

In the case of road embankments on soft ground, failures and large settlements occur very often. Therefore, we usually adopt so called observational construction, that is, the construction based on the data obtained from the field measurement. For the stability control, we have adopted three stability control methods proposed up to now. For the settlement prediction, we have adopted five prediction methods. Combining these methods, we have developed stability and settlement control systems for embankment works on soft ground by use of personal computer for data processing. It is confirmed, from a practical viewpoint, that this system is available not only to control stability as well as predict settlements of embankments, but also to draw diagrams of settlements and displacements of foundations (a).
