Overview of thin noise reducing surfacings
This study tour reports on the latest technology in asphalt surfacings, to better understand the direction the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) could take with newer technology in pavement surfacings, environmental issues and road performance measurements. The key topics covered were: recycling (including glass), thin and ultra thin surfacing, porous asphalt, noise reducing asphalt and noise measurements, surface texture and skid resistance, warm asphalt technology, use of crumb rubber in seals and hot mix asphalt, developments in cellulose fibres, mix design procedures encountered and road monitoring equipment.
