Road safety engineering risk assessment: part 6: crash reduction factors

Literature reviews were undertaken on 47 road engineering 'issues' that impact on relative risk. These included things such as retroflective raised pavement markers (RRPM), markings, intersections, speed limits, regulatory signs and work zones. Based on this research, new relative risks were developed for each issue for use in Australasian environments. Around 100 crash reduction figures were developed for these issues. A level of confidence was applied to each crash reduction, with most issues receiving only a low level of confidence. Specific gaps in knowledge are highlighted, and recommendations made regarding improving research in this area in future.
