Corrosion Resistance of Lightweight Concrete Made of Ternary Mixtures
Concrete is a durable and resistant material which, in order to improve its properties and physical characteristics, has been found under constant research to generate a more versatile, lighter and resistant material. Reinforcement steel inside the concrete structure, which is commonly deteriorated when immersed in salt water, becomes another element which is also constantly analyzed in furtherance of its protection against corrosion. Substitution of cement by cementing material (ternary mixtures) such as fly ash (waste of coal) and blast furnace slag (waste from the steel industry) generates a high-quality concrete as a result of the pozzolanic reaction, considered to have a big importance inside its physical characteristics. In pursuance of reusing common waste materials, industrial pumice stone and waste polypropylene are used to produce light concrete density.
