Design & Construction of WanZhou Yangtze River Railway Bridge
Arch bridges of steel truss are rarely applied in the world but this type of bridge construction technology is widely used in China. The main bridge of the Wanzhou Yangtze River Railway Bridge is a tied arch bridge with continuous steel trusses that adopt a self-balanced structural system. The suspenders adopt “H“ shaped steel members and the anti-vibration holes setting of suspenders can prevent wind vibration. The anti-corrosion coating system for steel structure adopts fluorin-carbon dope as the finishing coat. The paper shows how the bridge structural type and anti-corrosion coating system have been first adopted in China. The side span was installed by semi-cantilever method supported on a temporary pier, while the mid span adopted balanced-cantilever method using sling tower frame with the bridge was closed at midspan.
