Proposed Precautionary Spread Rates for the Highways Agency's Road Network
Spread rates for dry and prewetted salt were examined to determine the optimum conditions for effectiveness. Road trials were carried out to determine the effect of traffic volume on salt levels after using untreated salt, dry treated salt and prewetted salt. Spread rates were calculated to help determine freezing points of brine solutions, measure heavy and light traffic effects and compare these test results with those used elsewhere in Europe.
