Design of Filtering Process to Provide Real-time Instant Information for City Telematics Service
In this paper, the authors propose a filtering process to provide instant information query (infoQ) for city Telematics service. Based on this process, an experimental system is realized to filter data from the vehicle detectors (VD), changeable message sign (CMS), instant weather information (info) and parking-lot vacancy, etc, which were already built in the urban area of Taipei city. The dedicated On-Board-Unit (OBU) installed at the front side of vehicle can provide useful instant traffic information to the drivers. The most wanted information for drivers is to know the events that already happened on the road in front of their vehicle and real-time traffic at the surrounding area. Thus, the filtering process is very critical that it is designed to provide instant information that covers an area of 1 km long in front of the vehicle and with 330 m wide on both sides. After at least 17 times on-line adjustment on the designed parameters, the authors have obtained those three messages when driving speed larger than 5 km/hr is the most adequate for drivers. Meanwhile, other real-time messages can be selected on-demand on what the user may want to enquiry at that moment. In the authors' record, 294 original data is deduced to 3 data to be sent from wireless communication network with a deduction rate about 98.9 %. The information accuracy reaches to 99.2 % from the testing period of July 9th to November 9th on 2009.
