This report provides an overview of freight transportation in the United States, focusing on the volume and value of freight shipments, the extent of the freight network, industry employment and productivity patterns, and related safety, energy use, and environmental effects. Economic and social characteristics of the United States also are provided as background information. Metric data are available for several tables as well. All modes of freight transportation are covered.
