Lessons Learned From Major Bus Improvements in Latin America and Asia: Modernizing Public Transport
The paper reports on the modernization of bus systems in thirteen cities in Asia and Latin America, including Sao Paulo, Bogota, Beiging, Jakarta, and Santiago. The report validates the view that bus rapid transit can be a successful, relatively cheap, high capacity, sustainable mode of transportation. The report also notes the pitfalls, shortcomings and obstacles that many of the bus rapid transit systems face. It describes difficulties with design, funding and implementing bus rapid transit systems in these cities.
