GENERAL SPEED LIMITS OUTSIDE BUILT-UP-AREAS
ZU ALLGEMEINEN GESCHWINDIGKEITSBEGRENZUNGEN AUSSERHALB GESCHLOSSENER ORTSCHAFTEN
THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE REASONS FOR AND OBJECTIONS TO THE REGULATIONS ON SPEED LIMITS PUBLISHED BY THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT IN GERMANY. REFERENCE IS MADE TO THE REDUCTION IN ACCIDENT RATES AFTER THE INTRODUCTION OF SPEED LIMITS IN SWEDEN, GREAT BRITAIN, FRANCE, AND CERTAIN MOTORWAYS IN GERMANY, AND ALSO TO THE DECREASE IN THE NUMBER OF RISKY OVERTAKING MANOEUVRES. 120 KM/H IS RECOMMENDED AS A MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT ON MOTORWAYS AND 90 KM/H ON ROADS WITH TWO-WAY TRAFFIC.
