CORRELATION, PHOTOINTERPRETATION, GEOMORPHOLOGY AND PHYSICO-MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SOILS
CORRELACION, FOTOINTERPRETACION GEOMORFOLOGICA Y PROPIEDADES FISICO-MECANICAS DE LOS SUELOS
DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE ANALYSIS AND FORMATION OF THE RED LATERITE SOIL IN THE NORTH EASTERN PART OF THE CORRIENTES PROVINCE (ARGENTINA). THE EVOLUTION OF THESE TYPES OF SOIL CAN BE STUDIED FROM THEIR ORIGIN: BASALT ROCK. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL AND MINERALOGICAL COMPOSITION WHICH WILL BE DETERMINING FACTORS IN THE CONDUCT OF THE PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL, QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE TESTS TO BE CARRIED OUT. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PHASE FOR THE GEOMORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION BY MEANS OF AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY. DATA ARE GIVEN OF THE GEOMORPHOLOGY OF THIS TYPE OF SOIL WHICH IS CHARACTERIZED BY A LOW BASE-EXCHANGE CAPACITY AND REGULAR PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES. TESTS FOR CLASSIFICATION ARE BASED ON PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL DATA. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE FACT THAT IT IS SOMETIMES NECESSARY (1) TO USE OTHER TESTS, THIS TYPE OF SOIL GIVING SOMETIMES ERRONEOUS RESULTS WITH CONVENTIONAL TESTS, AND (2) TO COLLECT GEOLOGICAL OR PEDOLOGIC DATA.
