THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GRIGNY TUNNEL

LA CONSTRUCTION DU TUNNEL DE GRIGNY

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE TUNNEL, DRIVEN THROUGH ARGENTEUIL AND PANTIN MARLS; THIS LED TO THE OCCURRENCE OF DISORDERS THAT REQUIRED IMMEDIATE SUPPORT TO BE INSTALLED. THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE SITE IS DESCRIBED TOGETHER WITH THE GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATIONS CARRIED OUT. THE TUNNEL WAS CONSTRUCTED BY TWO METHODS: METHOD 1; CONVENTIONAL METHOD WHERE THE SECTION IS DIVIDED INTO TWO GALLERIES (EXCAVATION OF BOTH GALLERIES, CONCRETING OF TWO ABUTMENTS AND FILLING OF LOWER GALLERIES; EXCAVATION OF THE CROWN, IMMEDIATE SUPPORT; CONCRETING OF THE ARCH; EXCAVATION OF THE RESIDUAL CORE; EXCAVATION AND CONCRETING OF THE FOOTING). METHOD 2: A NEW AUSTRIAN METHOD DEVELOPED BY MULLER,L, FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF KARLSRUHE. THIS METHOD CONSISTS OF 4 PHASES: (A) EXCAVATION OF THE ROOF PER LENGTHS OF 0,80 TO 1,20 M AND IMMEDIATE SUPPORT BY MEANS OF ARCHES AND 20 CM OF SPRAYED CONCRETE; THEN TWO SPANS BUILT BEHIND, EXCAVATION OF THE CENTRAL SECTION AND INSTALLATION OF 6 PRESTRESSED ANCHORAGE DEVICES THROUGH THE ARCHES; (B) EXCAVATION OF THE SIDE WALL AND CENTRE CORE, SUPPORT OF THE SURROUNDING MEDIUM AS FOR THE ARCH AND INSTALLATION OF 4 ANCHORAGE SYSTEMS; (C) EXCAVATION AND CONCRETING OF THE FOOTING; (D) CONCRETING OF THE FINAL LINING AFTER WATERPROOFING OF THE ARCH. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTS CARRIED OUT ON THE COMPLETED STRUCTURE, OF THE COSTS AND OPENING TO TRAFFIC.
