EQUIVALENCE THEORY APPLIED TO BENDING OF SKEW SLABS

APPLICATION DE LA THEORIE DES EQUIVALENCES A L'ETUDE DE LA FLEXION D'UNE DALLE BIAISE

THIS PAPER RELATES TO TRANSVERSE BENDING OF SKEW SLABS, AND SEEKS TO INCREASE KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR AND ALSO TO PROVIDE THE DESIGNER WITH A METHOD OF ANALYSIS WHICH IS EASY TO APPLY. THE AUTHORS DISCUSS INITIALLY THE THEORY OF EQUIVALENCE WITH REFERENCE TO ITS APPLICATION AND PERFORMANCE IN CONVERGING TO AN EXACT SOLUTION. THE VALIDITY OF REPRESENTING A SKEW SLAB BY A TRIANGULAR BEAM GRID, STUDIED EXPERIMENTALLY ON A SCALE PERSPEX MODEL IS THEN DISCUSSED. THE THIRD SECTION PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF THE QUASI-SYSTEMATIC APPLICATION OF EQUIVALENCE THEORY TO SKEW SLABS SIMPLY SUPPORTED ON TWO OPPOSITE EDGES, THE SKEW ANGLE AND NUMBER OF SUPPORT NODES BEING THE STUDY VARIABLES.
