SOME EXPERIMENTS ON TRANSVERSE WAVES

IN-SITU SEISMIC MEASUREMENTS ON THE PROPAGATION OF SHEAR WAVES IN SOFT FORMATIONS (CLAYS) AND HARD FORMATIONS (LIMESTONE ROCKS) WITH THE AID OF DIFFERENT IN-SITU MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUES DO NOT GIVE SATISFACTORY RESULTS. SPECIAL NUMERICAL APPROACHES WERE THEREFORE UTILISED, BASED ON SPECTRAL ANALYSIS OF RECORDS, IN ORDER TO SELECT SEISMIC EVENTS AND TO CALCULATE THEIR SPEED OF PROPAGATION. THE APPLICATION OF THESE NUMERICAL PROCEDURES IS DESCRIBED AND THE RECORDS OBTAINED, USING THE TECHNIQUE OF IN-SITU MEASUREMENT, KNOWN AS "GROSSHOLE", DEMONSTRATES THAT THE PROCEDURES PROPOSED PROVIDE A VALUABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF TRANSVERSE WAVES.
