THE SEALING OF BRIDGES MADE OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE
BRIDGES WHICH FORM PART OF ROADS PASSING THROUGH LARGE TOWNS - STRESSED BY LARGE VOLUMES OF TRAFFIC AND BY THE BREAKING AND ACCELERATION OF VEHICLES, AND OFTEN HAVING COMPLEX DRAINAGE CONDITIONS - ARE PROBLEMATICAL AS REGARDS SEALING. THE SELECTION OF THE MATERIAL, THE WAY IN WHICH IT IS USED, AND THE CALCULATION OF THE THICKNESS OF THE LAYER DETERMINE THE QUALITY AND DURABILITY OF THE SEAL AND THE SURFACING. IN BERLIN, OLD BRIDGES ARE BEING CAREFULLY CLEANED, SPREAD WITH THIN EPOXY RESIN, COVERED WITH A LAYER OF TAR/EPOXY RESIN, AND FINALLY SPREAD WITH A LAYER OF HARD STONE CHIPPINGS. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF "EPOXAL", A NEWLY DEVELOPED TEXTURED ALUMINIUM FOIL COATED ON BOTH SIDED WITH EPOXY RESIN, WHICH CAN BE USED AS A SEALING LAYER BETWEEN A BASE OF FINE CONCRETE AND A TOP COURSE OF GUSSASPHALT. /TRRL/
