ON THE DRIFT OF THE GREENLAND PACK ICE
The average drift of ice over reasonably long periods of time depends significantly on the prevailing geostrophic ocean currents. These currents are, in turn, to large degree an integral part of the wind-driven ocean circulation. Away from the western boundary of the ocean, and in the absence of bathymetric modification, this circulation is primarily governed by Sverdrup dynamics.
