CONTROL AND ACCEPTANCE OF HOT MIX ASPHALT PAVEMENTS BY STATISTICAL METHODS IN SOUTH CAROLINA
STATISTICAL QUALITY CONTROL RESEARCH WAS CONDUCTED INTO THE FIELD OF HOT-PLANT MIXES. A SAMPLING METHOD WAS DEVISED WHICH PROVIDED THAT ALL SAMPLES BE TAKEN ON A RANDOM BASIS. SURFACE COURSES, BINDER COURSES, AND SAND ASPHALT WERE INVESTIGATED. THE STANDARD DEVIATION WAS COMPUTED FOR THE VARIATION IN TEST RESULTS. THE SURFACE MIX WHICH WAS USED WAS UNIFORM IN TEXTURE. THE QUALITY OF THE MIX WAS GOOD AND WAS EQUAL TO THE QUALITY WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN OBTAINED HAD ROUTINE QUALITY CONTROL METHODS BEEN USED. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT CONTROL AND ACCEPTANCE OF ASPHALTIC PLANT MIXES BY STATISTICAL METHODS HAS A VERY PROMISING FUTURE.
