QUALITY CONTROL ANALYSIS. PART II. SOIL AND AGGREGATE BASE COURSE
STATISTICAL EVALUATIONS OF RESULTS FROM SEVERAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS WERE MADE TO DETERMINE THE BASIC PATTERN OF VARIABILITY WITH RESPECT TO CERTAIN BASE COURSE CHARACTERISTICS. ON THE BASIS OF THIS VARIABILITY, NUMERICAL LIMITS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED USING STATISTICAL QUALITY CONTROL TECHNIQUES. THE ANALYSIS INDICATED /1/ THAT THE FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION OF HISTORICAL DATA FOR MOST OF THE CHARACTERISTICS TEND TO FOLLOW NORMAL DISTRIBUTION, /2/ THAT THE VARIABILITY FOR COMPACTION AND THICKNESS IS CONSIDERABLY DIFFERENT FOR DIFFERENT CONTRACTORS, /3/ THAT THIS VARIABILITY FOR COMPACTION IS MORE PRONOUNCED FOR CEMENT STABILIZED AGGREGATE BASE COURSE THAN FOR STABLIZED SOIL CEMENT COURSE, /4/ FURTHERMORE, THAT FOR RAW OR UNSTABLIZED AGGREGATE BASE COURSE, THE VARIABILITY IS LESS THAN THAT FOR STABILIZED BASE COURSE. /AUTHOR/
