WAVE FORCES ON A DOCK
This report is a study of wave uplift forces and pressures on a dock, exerted by periodic non-breaking and breaking waves. For breaking waves, both the cases of complete and no air entrapment between the waves and the underside of the dock were considered. The author makes several conclusions about non-breaking wave forces (uplift due to boundary conditions imposed by velocity and negative uplift associated with the advance of the trough under the dock), forces of a wave breaking on a beach with air entrapment and forces of a wave breaking on a beach with no entrapment both mathematically and experimentally.
