EFFECT OF ACOUSTICS ON CORROSION OF STEEL
Acoustic vibrations with power up to 200 w/sq in. at 20,000 cps were applied to steel specimens under both wet and dry corrosion conditions; introduction of acoustic energy decreased rate of corrosion in all tests; microscopic examination showed that thinner and more adherent corrosion film had been produced on surface of insonated treated steel than on noninsonated steel sample; oxide film produced on insonated sample was half thickness of oxide film produced on noninsonated sample.
