QUALITY CONTROL OF CENTRAL MIX CONCRETE DURING MIXING AND TRANSPORTING: A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
SELECTED LITERATURE FROM 1925 TO DATE WAS SURVEYED, WITH EMPHASIS ON MIXING TIME, HAUL TIME AND EXTENDED AGITATION, OVERLOADING, AND RETEMPERING. SELECTION OF MIX TIME IS BEST JUDGED ON A MIXER-TO-MIXER BASES, WITH MINIMUM MIX TIME DEPENDING LARGELY UPON METHOD OF INTRODUCING MATERIALS INTO THE MIXER. COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH AND FREEZE-THAW PROTECTION ARE NOT ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY HAULS OF SEVERAL HOURS DURATION. OVERLOADING IS NOT RECOMMENDED BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE EQUIPMENT DAMAGE AND REDUCED MIXING EFFICIENCY. RETEMPERING GENERALLY REDUCES STRENGTH AND FREEZE-THAW RESISTANCE. /AUTHOR/
