AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE FROST RESISTANCE OF GROUTING MORTAR (IN FRENCH)

THE FREEZING POINT OF MORTAR IS LOWERED BY THE ADDITION OF METHYL ALCOHOL IN AMOUNT OF UP TO 10 PER CENT BY WEIGHT OF THE WATER. THE TEXTURE OF THE PASTE BECOMES MORE HOMOGENEOUS AND THE MECHANICAL RESISTANCE IS NOT GREATLY MODIFIED. WHEN CURING BEFORE FREEZING IS CARRIED OUT OVER LONGER PERIODS, THE STRENGTH OF THE PASTE INCREASES. IF THE CURING TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE OC, THE INFLUENCE OF THE FREEZING TEMPERATURE IS NOT AS GREAT AS WHEN CURING TAKES PLACE BELOW 0C. THE CHANGE IN VOLUME CAUSED BY FREEZING (9 PER CENT FOR PURE WATER) DISAPPEARS IF THE MIXING WATER CONTAINS MORE THAN 5 PER CENT BY WEIGHT OF METHYL ALCOHOL.
