ON THE APPLICATION OF "ICES" AND UNIVERSAL PROGRAM SOFTWARE SYSTEMS
THE CIVIL ENGINEERING COMPUTER SYSTEM PROJECT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE IS CONCERNED WITH THE APPLICATION OF COMPUTERS AND SOFTWARE SYSTEMS TO THE EVERY DAY PRACTICE OF CONSULTING ENGINEERS. THE PROBLEMS OF THE SMALL CONSULTING OFFICE IN THIS APPLICATION, SUCH AS COST CONSIDERATIONS AND CHOOSING BETWEEN AVAILABLE OPTIONS, ARE CONSIDERED. A SEMINAR/WORKSHOP HELD AT THE UNIVERSITY USED SUBPROGRAMS OF "ICES" DEVELOPED AT MIT AND THE UNIVERSAL PROGRAM SYSTEM DEVELOPED BY OMNIDATA INC. FOR SOLUTIONS OF PROBLEMS IN STRUCTURAL, GEOMETRIC, AND VOLUMETRIC APPLICATIONS. THE COMPARATIVE OBSERVATIONS FOR THE SAMPLING OF PROBLEMS SOLVED IN THE WORKSHOP, AND THE DIFFERENCES IN PROGRAMMING PHILOSOPHIES ARE DESCRIBED. /ASCE/
