STRESS CONCENTRATIONS AROUND SHAPED HOLES
THE PROBLEM OF DETERMINING STRESS CONCENTRATIONS AROUND VARIOUSLY SHAPED HOLES IN PLATES UNDER UNIFORM TENSION IS INVESTIGATED. FORMULAS FOR DETERMINING THE HOOP STRESS AROUND THESE HOLES ARE DERIVED BY A PERTUBATION METHOD. STRESS CONCENTRATION FACTORS CALCULATED BY THE PERTURBATION METHOD AGREE WELL WITH THOSE CALCULATED BY THE TRADITIONAL THEORIES FOR ELLIPTICAL AND APPROXIMATED SQUARE HOLES. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ALSO INDICATE THAT THE THEORETICAL SOLUTION IS RELIABLE. /ASCE/
